BUTTERFLIES AND LATE LOVES
In 1940, ten mahogany cases containing some 22,000 butterflies were delivered to the Castle Museum in Norwich, together with a black japanned box, sealed and padlocked. The butterfly collection was the life's work of Miss Margaret Fountaine with Khalil Neimy - a valuable bequest. And the Japanned box? That was left unopened, according to the instruction of Miss Fountaine's Will, until April 1978, when it was found to contain twelve volumes of her diary; from 1878 when she was not yet 16, until 1939, a few months before her death.
