
THE TAMING OF LADY LORINDA
There is a big, beautiful ball. Everyone is having a great time, except the man in the green mask. He is clearly bored and disgusted by the behavior of its participants, especially the promiscuous women. He condemns Lorinda in particular because she is shameless, brave and rebellious. She witnesses how she refuses many of her admirers who fall in love with her dazzling beauty. In a conversation with a friend who tells him more about the mysterious Lorinda, he states that he would be happy to take on the challenge of taming the woman and taming her explosive temper. Lorinda's father is a gambler and lost their entire estate in their last duel. The father wants to shoot himself to avoid disgrace. Lorinda dissuades him from this idea, who suggests that they move to Cornwall and pay off the entire debt. The father feels trapped there, but he hears that Durstan Hayle has just returned from India and wants to arrange a game with him in order to rob him of the considerable fortune he has at his disposal.
